The deal

The basics

Tafela is software you rent from us monthly to run your tutoring business. By signing up you agree to these terms. They're written in plain English; if anything is unclear, email us.

Your account

  • You sign up with a real email and password.
  • One account per tutor. Don't share login credentials.
  • You're responsible for what happens under your account — including the data you put in about your students and parents.
  • Be at least 18 years old, or sign up under the supervision of a guardian.

Pricing and billing

  • Beta launch price is R 149 per month. Your first month is free.
  • You won't be charged without explicitly choosing a billing method. We'll prompt you for one before your trial ends.
  • Cancel any time from settings. Your access continues to the end of the period you've paid for.
  • Referral credits are applied manually — email hello@tafela.co.za. Capped at 6 lifetime free months per account.
  • Pricing may change with 30 days' notice. Existing customers are typically grandfathered for at least 12 months.

What you can and can't do

  • Use Tafela for legitimate tutoring administration — your own, or your business's. Don't use it to harass, defraud, or break the law.
  • Don't reverse-engineer the service or scrape data programmatically. APIs and exports are coming.
  • Don't upload anyone else's personal information without their consent (or, for minors, their guardian's consent — that's a POPIA requirement).

Our obligations

  • We aim for high availability but don't guarantee zero downtime. Maintenance windows are announced in advance.
  • We back up your database daily and store it encrypted at rest.
  • We email you about service changes that affect you (price, feature deprecations, scheduled downtime).

When things go wrong

We'll do our best to fix bugs quickly and credit your account fairly if Tafela is unusable for an extended period. We're not liable for indirect or consequential damages (lost income, missed lessons, etc.). If you're unhappy, please tell us directly first — we'll usually sort it before it becomes a problem.

Ending things

  • You can cancel any time from settings.
  • We can suspend an account that violates these terms or is used for fraud, with notice where reasonable.
  • After cancellation we keep your data for 30 days, then remove it. Export early if you want a copy.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of South Africa. Disputes are handled by the courts of South Africa.

Changes

We'll update these terms when something material changes and email all customers. Continued use after the update means you accept the new version.
